A Walk to Big Buddha Hill (Wat Phra Yai) Pattaya, Thailand
Located in the heart of Pattaya City, Thailand, Wat Phra Yai, also known as Big Buddha Hill, is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking cultural experiences beyond the bustling nightlife. Nestled on Pratumnak Hill, this majestic site lies approximately 2 kilometers or 1.2 miles from central Pattaya, situated between Pattaya Beach and Jomtiem. For those preferring a quicker mode of transport, motorcycle taxis are available for around 30-50 baht, while songthaews cost 10-20 baht. The journey begins at the base of the hill, where you'll find the serene Chaloem Phra Kiat Park - one of the few green spaces in Pattaya. As you walk through the park, the imposing figure of the 18-meter tall or 59-foot Buddha statue on Big Buddha Hill comes into view. This colossal structure, one of the tallest Buddhas in Thailand, is guarded by dragons or serpents along the staircase leading up to it. Halfway up, you'll also encounter a small Chinese temple, adding another layer of cultural depth to your visit.
